ugh the men’s stuff was just GOD AWFUL and OVERWROUGHT and a fucking trainwreck. i’m all about playing with fits and making ill fitting garments look beautiful with the appropriate styling but COME ON. its like she went to the jet rag dollar sale, picked up a bunch of stuff, got drunk and then just started throwing it on some male models.
her woman’s “cruise” or “holiday” or “pre-spring” stuff though? has a LOT of potential. apparently Burton was inspired by “Hans Bellmer’s dolls and samurai warriors” which (as you may or may not know) gets me pretty hot and bothered. there is just enough structure and whimsy to make them frightening and harsh but not too “OMG LOOK AT ME! ARENT I MAGICAL!” (ala erin featherson). there’s masculinity without sacrificing femininity. Its true to McQueen’s body of work. I like it.
Bottom line? i am excited about what Burton will do for the women’s stuff but so far unimpressed by her efforts with menswear.
